About the Lawrence
County Arts Council
|
The Lawrence County Arts Council (LCAC) was
established in October 1998 with a small group of volunteers and support
from the state. These non-salaried, energetic volunteers felt a separate
council devoted exclusively to the Arts would have a positive effect on
our community through enrichment and enlightenment to the cultural arts.
Since 1998, we have offered a diversity of monthly activities including
art exhibits, workshops, contests, talent shows, poetry readings, meet
the author events, concerts, and initiated two annual festival
events,Yatesville Lake Family Jubilee and the Winter Wonderland.
LCAC partners with many local organizations in our
community, on city, county and state levels. Our members are called on
either as a group or individually to judge and/or for advice on internal
artistic activities and artistic projects. We have also been guest
speakers and have taught arts classes for school-related organizations
and non-profit organizations.
Our commitment is to showcase, nurture, and
encourage the diversified artistic skills (old and new) of our
artistically talented residents of all ages and to expose our community
to new forms of Art.
LCAC is a non-profit organization, funded in part with revenues
collected through cultural program activities, and by our "Patrons
of the Arts" (local businesses, organizations and private
individuals) and previously by a grant from the Kentucky Arts Council, a
state agency of the Education, Arts and Humanities Cabinet.
LCAC's regular monthly meeting is held
the second Thursday of each month at the Lawrence County Extension Office,
time 4:30 p.m., the public is encouraged and invited to attend.
